Enjoy cooling off in our natural springs. Our camp has natural springs, a true “spa” with life giving waters flowing right through our camp into Lake Natron. There are a series of pools that are easily accessed and a must in the heat of the day to cool down, relax and have the endemic cyclids nibble away at your toes!

Hike deep into the Ngare Sero gorge, where ancient springs continue to carve into the great rift valley, exposing millions of years of geological history. It takes around 40 minutes one way to a great set of waterfalls where you can swim and relax or even take a picnic lunch.

Take a walk to the lake flats. The beguiling lesser flamingo feed on algae found in soda lakes across eastern Africa but choose to breed almost exclusively at Lake Natron. In fact, around 75% of the world’s lesser flamingo population are born at Lake Natron. The best time to view these magnificent birds are either at sunrise or sunset when the heat is not so ferocious.

Have a massage at Lake Natron Camp: After a morning of adventure why not treat yourself to a massage by our masseuses? All proceeds to locally trained Maasai women.

Enjoy dramatic sundowners with breathtaking views. Take a drive or walk to the top of nearby hill or to a private spot by the lakeside. Enjoy a nice cold sundowner or two overlooking the lake in the shadows of Gelai and Mt. Lengai and watch the sun go down behind the escarpment of the Great Rift Valley. Your guide will serve you anything from champagne to gin & tonic to a good old Kilimanjaro beer.

Walk to hominid footprints within our concession area. Researchers have catalogued this spectacularly rare find of well-preserved human footprints left in the mud between 5,000 and 19,000 years ago. No other site in Africa has as many ancient Homo sapiens footprints, making it a treasure trove for scientists trying to tell the story of humankind’s earliest days.

Become a local! Take a 15 minute drive to Ngare Sero Village. Visit the local school to see our permaculture projects in action and grab a drink in a local bar.
